Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir suprisingly open fire again on his successor, Abdullah Badawi, just a day after their satisfied meeting.

Mahathir this time digged some old story on Badawi’s integrity when Badawi suspiciously helped a relative’s company to obtain contracts in the UN’s oil-for-food programme in Iraq when he was still Deputy Prime Minister.

It’s irony that Mahathir decided to pass his position to a man that he now questioned the integrity. Mahathir offered a bit of explanation though.. saying that when Badawi was DPM, his children and son-in-law were not involved.

Mahathir also stated that he considered Malaysia a police state, that he felt his civil rights have been taken away. He’s indicating that the government was preventing him from airing his views by using police force to pressure people who invited him to speak at public gatherings.

What I hope to see is that Mahathir providing solid evidence to backup his words. He’s doing too much talking and not giving proof that support his accusations.

For me it’s good to see a former leader watching over the misconduct of the current government, but there’s a limit on what Mahathir should voice his opinion, especially when he is not showing any real proof with his claims.
